We love the unique challenge of taking another designer's brand and creating a custom website. It gives us the opportunity to push ourselves and work in different styles. We'd been partnering with AnnaKate of Rhema Design Co. for a couple of years and in 2021, it was her turn to get a custom website. She had just rebranded with such a cool and modern brand and we were so excited to get to collaborate with her. She was the first website we were creating for a fellow designer so we felt the pressure but the result turned into one of our most favorite projects to date.
Branding, Photography & Copy
AnnaKate created a very fun and modern brand for us to work with. The shades of green, red, and pink were a unique palette. Her choice of fonts played well with each other. And her logos and brand marks were varied and gave us the ability to use them as graphics on the site. We talk a lot about the building blocks of an immersive website and we had an amazing brand thanks to her. Next up was the sophisticated and elevated photography courtesy of Kayley Lorraine. A bold mix of neutrals and color, the photos made AnnaKate look like a badass and the complimenting stock was interesting to look at with lots of details. Finally, we had powerful copy from Kayla Hollatz. It did a great job explaing just how amazing it was to work with AnnaKate while also expressing her personality and building a connection with the website visitor.
Website Strategy, Design & Development
On the site, we wanted to create a very editorial look with a lot of layers. We used photos and color blocking as backgrounds to ground sections and make the site easy to follow. Also, we created a unique type hierarchy to vary the headings throughout the text to keep readers engaged and promote skimming which helps visitors find the information they need.
When you first land on the site, hovering over the photo of AnnaKate reveals another headshot of her. We wanted to sprinkle details like this throughout the site so that visitors were encouraged to click around and deiscover secrets as they wandered the site. All of the choices we made was to make sure her audience immersed themselves in the website and want to reach out to work with her.
The hidden menu has a cool split screen animation and layering of her brand photos to add a beautiful surprise when visitors were navigating the site. We also did a full screen footer with lots of negative space to highlight more of her brand photography and give all the important information space to sing. Both gave the site a polished, high end look.
Once we had launched the main site, we worked together again when AnnaKate launched her print course. She created a sister brand to her main business and we created an intriguing and minimal sales page. Her course ended up wowing students and helping her make passive income.
What AnnaKate had to say...
"December Oak pushed my website in bold new directions, making me stand out in a saturated market. For a long time, I had a site I didn't like, now I'm thrilled to show it off to everyone. It represents the direction my business is going in so perfectly."
